A powerful storm swept across northern Italy on Sunday evening. As a result of the severe weather, a 63-year-old womanwas killed near Milan when a tree fell on her during a walk.
The incident occurred in the town of Robecchetto con Induno, west of Milan. The woman had been walking with two other people, who were also injured in the accident and subsequently hospitalized. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
According to emergency services, firefighters have already responded to around 50 storm-related incidents, with another 37 still waiting to be resolved.
Most of the reported emergencies involved
- trees knocked down by strong winds,
- flooded basements and taverns,
- advertising billboards torn down.
The Italian news agency ANSA also reported that heavy rains impacted the eastern Veneto region, particularly around the cities of Belluno and Vicenza, as well as parts of Tuscany, where similar reports of fallen trees and damage were made.
Weather contrast across the country
Remarkably, while the north was struck by storms and rain, temperatures in much of central and southern Italy — including Rome — remained around 30 degrees Celsius, creating a sharp contrast in weather conditions across the country.

Large parts of Europe have been experiencing extreme heat at the start of summer. Officials have already connected the high temperatures to at least eight deaths across the continent.
Flash floods in Texas: Dozens dead and missing
Earlier, on the morning of July 4, central Texas experienced sudden and deadly flash flooding. In Kerr County, water levels rose between 8 and 9 meters in just 45 minutes.
At the private children’s camp “Mystic”, which hosted approximately 700 people, dozens were killed or went missing. Among the victims were the camp director, Dick Eastland, who reportedly saved multiple people before being overcome by the water, as well as three children under the age of ten.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the United States following the tragedy.
On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump declared a state of disaster in Kerr County, where at least 59 peoplehad already died due to the flooding. In total, the natural disaster has claimed at least 69 lives in Texas.
