Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński has announced that the temporary border controls with Germany will be extended until October 4th. Initially, these controls were set to last until August 5th. According to the PAP news agency, the decision was made due to the ongoing threat posed by illegal migration. The measure aims to enhance security and prevent smuggling and unauthorized border crossings. This is reported by G.Business, with reference to Spiegel.

Border Controls Will Last at Least Until Early October

According to the Schengen Border Code, member states have the right to temporarily reintroduce controls at internal borders if there is a serious threat to public order. Poland has been using this mechanism for several months in response to the increasing number of illegal border crossings, mainly from southern Europe. According to Kierwiński, the measures are selective and proportionate.

At the border with Germany, especially in the Słubice area, there have been delays due to checks on documents and vehicles. Passenger and freight traffic remains high, so controls are carried out selectively but regularly. Cooperation with German authorities is aimed at minimizing the inconvenience for travelers.

The government emphasizes that the checks are not aimed at specific groups but are a response to the current migration situation. Additionally, mobile patrols and electronic surveillance are being implemented to support the work of border officers.
