On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, French champions Paris Saint-Germain officially announced the signing of Ilja Zabarnyj from AFC Bournemouth. The 22-year-old Ukrainian centre-back has signed a five-year contract until June 2030.

According to G.Business, citing PSG’s official statement, the total transfer package amounts to €67 million, including fixed fee, bonuses and solidarity payments. This makes it the most expensive sale in Dynamo Kyiv’s history and one of the biggest transfers ever for a Ukrainian player.

Breakdown of the transfer fee

  • €60 million fixed fee to Bournemouth
  • €3 million in solidarity payments to his youth clubs
  • €4 million in performance-related bonuses (€1.5 million each for winning Ligue 1 and the Champions League, plus other performance clauses)

Dynamo Kyiv will receive €16.75 million from the total deal due to a sell-on clause and FIFA’s solidarity mechanism.

Contract details and salary

French media report that Zabarnyj will earn a net annual salary of €4.5 million, around €375,000 per month. His contract also includes loyalty bonuses and incentives for appearances, clean sheets and team achievements.

The defender has already passed his medical examination at PSG’s training facility in Poissy and will join full team training in the coming days.

Debut not expected in the Super Cup

PSG will kick off the new season on August 13, 2025, in the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur. However, Zabarnyj will not be included in the matchday squad. His debut is expected in one of the opening Ligue 1 fixtures or in the Champions League group stage in September.
