On Saturday, August 23, several Russian airports suspended arrivals and departures due to an attack by unidentified drones. This was reported by G.Business with reference to Russian Telegram channels. In particular, Rosaviatsiya announced the suspension of flights at the airports of Saratov, Volgograd, Kaluga, Tambov, Nizhny Novgorod, Ulyanovsk, Kirov, Nizhnekamsk, Kazan, and even at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport.

“Temporary restrictions have been introduced in the airspace perimeter of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport. The airport continues to handle flights of Russian and foreign airlines for departures and arrivals depending on feasibility and scheduling,” the ASTRA channel reported at 21:10.

The reason for all of this was an attack by unidentified drones. In particular, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin recently reported that air defense forces allegedly shot down a drone that was flying in the direction of the Russian capital.

In addition, St. Petersburg was also under attack. According to Russian media, as a result of the situation, more than 40 flights were delayed at Pulkovo Airport.

Social media also published footage showing a drone flying over St. Petersburg, and it was claimed that air defense forces shot down two of them. In particular, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov stated that one drone was shot down in the Pushkinsky district, and another in the Krasnoselsky district.

The Russian Ministry of Defense also issued a statement on the situation. They claimed that 32 drones were destroyed over the Kaluga, Bryansk, Novgorod, Leningrad, Tver, Smolensk, and Tula regions.

It should be recalled that on July 5, Russian airports also experienced a collapse. Due to an attack by unidentified drones, nearly 100 flights were canceled in Moscow and St. Petersburg alone, and hundreds more were delayed. Moreover, the following day the situation worsened, with even more flights delayed and canceled.
